Tahoe Engaged and the Tahoe Wedding Industry Group (TWIG) ("we", "us") run tahoeengaged.com, a directory and community for Lake Tahoe's wedding professionals and the couples who plan with them. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the site, and the choices you have. Questions: sarah@tahoeengaged.com.

What we collect

  • What you send us through forms. When you contact a member, send an inquiry, RSVP to a TWIG gathering, apply for membership, submit a Featured Luminary story or a real wedding, or sign up for our newsletter, we receive what you enter: typically your name, email, phone, business details, wedding date and the message, photos and links you choose to share. Membership applications can also include references, insurance and licence details and a signature.
  • Member listings. If you are a TWIG member, the profile you approve (business name, description, photos, contact details, website and social links) is published in the public directory.
  • Twiggy, our site guide. If you chat with Twiggy, your questions and Twiggy's answers are stored so we can improve the guide and keep it safe. Please do not share sensitive personal information in the chat.
  • Visit counts. To show members how their listing is doing, the site counts page views and clicks (for example on a member's website or Instagram link). It uses a random identifier stored in your browser's local storage; it is not linked to your name, and we do not use advertising trackers or sell this data. Our servers also keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, time of request) for security.
  • Cookies. The public site does not set advertising cookies. A sign-in cookie is used only for members and staff who log in to the back office. If we turn on Google Analytics in the future, it will be listed here.

How we use it

  • To pass your inquiry to the members you contacted, and to reply to you.
  • To review membership applications, manage memberships, renewals and dues, and run TWIG events.
  • To send our newsletter, the Luminary Collective, to people who subscribed (every email has an unsubscribe link).
  • To publish member listings, Luminary features and real-wedding stories that the people involved submitted for publication, on our website and on our social media, with the credits they provided.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and understand which pages are useful.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

Who helps us

We use a small number of service providers who process data for us under their own privacy terms:

  • Oracle Cloud (website hosting) and Cloudflare (domain name and security).
  • Mailchimp (newsletter and email delivery).
  • Google (forms and file storage for some submissions, such as Luminary photos).
  • Meta / Instagram (when we post member features to our own Instagram and Facebook accounts).
  • An AI model provider that powers Twiggy and helps us draft feature write-ups (currently NVIDIA's hosted model service); chat text is sent to it to generate replies.
  • PayPal or Zelle, if you pay membership dues that way (we do not store card or bank details).

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our members, couples and visitors.

Social media connection

Tahoe Engaged uses a Meta (Instagram) app to publish our own posts, such as the monthly Featured Luminary, to Tahoe Engaged's Instagram account. The app only acts on accounts owned by Tahoe Engaged. It does not collect information from visitors' Facebook or Instagram accounts. Access tokens are kept on our server and never shown in the browser.

How long we keep it

Inquiries, applications and submissions are kept while they are useful for running TWIG and for our records, then deleted or anonymised. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Visit counts are kept for up to about 13 months. Published member listings stay up while the membership is active.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop using it for the newsletter. California residents have rights under California law, including the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using them. To make any request, email sarah@tahoeengaged.com, or see how to delete your data. We reply within 30 days.

Children

tahoeengaged.com is meant for adults planning weddings and for wedding professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Security

We limit who on our team can access personal information, keep secrets such as access tokens on the server, and serve tahoeengaged.com over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No website is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive information (such as bank details) through our forms.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site or in the newsletter.
